plastic
Plastic has been a problem for many years and it is only getting worse and more dangerous throughout the years. I believe we should be more concerned and be aware of how serious of a problem it is. That's why I believe it should be addressed since it is an ethical issue. Plastic is a real problem that affects our health and community that should be addressed and taken more seriously by people.
For starters, this is a problem because plastic is difficult to destroy and lasts for a long time. It contains numerous chemicals that make it nearly impossible to remove. Furthermore, plastic is found everywhere, including our lands and oceans. It can be dangerous to our environment and the animals that are mistaken for food and eaten. Finally, it is a problem because no solution has been found that is adequate to solve the problem.
Second, many solutions to this problem have been proposed over the years, but none have been completely successful. The solutions aren't working because people can't agree on them or because people aren't putting in the effort to solve the problem. However, not every solution has been abandoned. Some of them were successful in reducing the use of plastic, but not completely. I believe there will be no single solution that will completely solve the problem but will only help it to some extent.
In addition, many studies have shown how bad plastic and dangerous it can be and how we should be more aware. Parker explains, “The global campaign to gain control of plastic waste is one of the fastest-growing environmental causes ever mounted. Yet it hasn’t been enough to make a dent in the growing tonnage of discarded plastic that ends up in the seas.” Plastic isn't only a threat to us and our environment but also to the animals in the ocean that end up mistaking it for food and end up eating it.The author writes, ”In fact, production is forecast to more than double by 2050—increasing to 756 million tons anticipated in 2050 from 308 million tons produced in 2018, according to a report published by the American Chemistry Council in 2019.”
Also, Everyone has their own opinion on this topic and everyone will not agree with one another. Kini writes, “Our research has uncovered hundreds of innovations in technologies that can help reduce the plastic waste of companies. Often innovators are small entrepreneurs, who struggle to find investors or markets for their products.” Many people try to put the “best” solution but it does not end up working that well because everyone will have a different opinion on it no matter what.
Finally, I believe that this is a problem that must be addressed. Not only for the sake of the environment, but also for the sake of our health. Animals will mistake it for food, such as fish, and we will eat those fish, allowing plastic to enter our bodies. Finally, I believe that taking small steps will result in a complete reduction in the use of plastic.
